The Department of Labour seeks to facilitate harmonious industrial relations in
the state through effective enforcement of various labour laws and to protect and
safeguard the interests of workers. It is also committed to create healthy work
environment for higher production and to develop and coordinate vocational skill
development for enhancing employability. The Government’s attention is also focused
on promoting the welfare and providing social security to the labour force of both
organized and unorganized sectors. These objectives are sought to be achieved through
enactment and implementation of various labour laws, which regulate the terms and
conditions of service and employment of workers. In Industrial disputes, the Department
is the instrument for conciliation and conflict resolution between the labour and
management.
